About Ella Rises

Empowering young Latinas through education, mentorship, and community support.

Our Mission

Ella Rises is dedicated to creating opportunities for young women to discover their potential through STEM education, arts programs, and leadership development. We believe that as girls connect with their spiritual and cultural heritage, they gain the clarity and confidence needed to rise, lead, and thrive.

Our Story

Ella Rises was born from a desire to honor heritage, strengthen identity, and create life-changing opportunities for Latina youth. What began as a deeply personal impression has grown into a community of mentors, families, and young women who believe in education, creativity, and faith as powerful forces for good.

Today, Ella Rises offers programs and experiences designed to help girls see themselves as leaders, creators, and contributors in their homes, schools, and communities.

Leadership

Ella Rises is guided by women who combine lived experience, cultural connection, and professional expertise to support Latina youth.

Portrait of Nadia Cates

Nadia Cates

Founder & Executive Director

Nadia is from the borderlands of Mexico and Southern California and is the oldest of three daughters. Inspired by her parents’ love and devotion for each other, their family, and God, she now finds her greatest joy as a mother of six and wife to an incredible man.

She studied Human Development at Brigham Young University and graduated in 2007. In 2013, Nadia and her young family moved to Mexico City, where she studied for a year in a Mexican Culinary Institute under the great Maestros Yuri de Gortari and Edmundo Escamilla.

While living in Mexico City, the idea of Ella Rises was conceived. Connecting deeply with her heritage, she saw it in a new light and came to believe that as we embrace our spiritual and cultural roots, we gain clarity and confidence to pursue an empowering cycle of progress. Nadia is grateful to lead Ella Rises as its Creative and Executive Director.
